تم کو معلوم نہیں غم کی حقیقت ورنہ
تو میرے ساتھ بھرے شہر میں ماتم کرتا
अन्यथा दुःख का सच आप नहीं जानते
तो मेरे साथ पूरा शहर शोक मनाता
anyatha duhkh ka sach aap nahin jaanate
to mere saath poora shahar shok manaata
You do not know the truth of grief otherwise
So with me, the full city would have mourned
یہی ہے ذوقِ عِبادت کی اِنتہا ساغرؔ
غَمِ حیات کے ماروں کا احترام کرو
यह पूजा के स्वाद का अंत है
दु: ख के वार का सम्मान करें
yah pooja ke svaad ka ant hai
du: kh ke vaar ka sammaan karen
This is the end of the taste of worship
Respect the blows of grief
میری قسمت میں غم گر اِتنا تھا
دِل بھی یارب کئی دئیے ہوتے
मेरा भाग्य बहुत दुखी था
दिल ने कई तोहफे दिए होंगे
mera bhaagy bahut dukhee tha
dil ne kaee tohaphe die honge
My fate was so sad
The heart would have given many gifts
وہ کہتے ہیں مسکراتے بہت ہو
ہم نے کہا یہی تو راز ہے غم چھپانے کا
वे कहते हैं कि आप बहुत मुस्कुराते हैं
हमने कहा कि यही दु:ख छुपाने का राज है
ve kahate hain ki aap bahut muskuraate hain
hamane kaha ki yahee du:kh chhupaane ka raaj hai
They say you smile a lot
We said that this is the secret of hiding grief
چاند کے ساتھ کئی درد پرانے نکلے
کِتنے غم تھے جو تیرے غم کے بہانے نکلے
चाँद के साथ कई दर्द पुराने हो जाते हैं
कितने ग़म थे जो तुम्हारे ग़म का बहाना बनकर निकले
chaand ke saath kaee dard puraane ho jaate hain
kitane gam the jo tumhaare gam ka bahaana banakar nikale
Many pains become old with the moon
How many sorrows were there that came out as an excuse for your sorrow
آتا ہے کون کون تیرے غم کو بانٹنے
زاہدؔ تو اپنی موت کی افواہ اڑا کے دیکھ
आपका दुख बांटने कौन आता है?
जाहिद, अपनी मौत की अफवाह मत फैलाओ
aapaka dukh baantane kaun aata hai?
jaahid, apanee maut kee aphavaah mat phailao

Zahid, don’t spread the rumor of your death
تمھارا غم نہیں کافی ہمارا دِل جلانے کو
نئےکچھ روگ پالیں گے پرانے دکھ بھلانے کو
आपका दुःख हमारे दिल को जलाने के लिए पर्याप्त नहीं है
कुछ नया करने से पुराने दुख दूर होंगे
aapaka duhkh hamaare dil ko jalaane ke lie paryaapt nahin hai
kuchh naya karane se puraane dukh door honge
Your grief is not enough to burn our heart
Something new will heal old sorrows
